Business Coaching through Change is a structured approach to shifting/transitioning individuals, teams and the organization from a current state to a desired future state. A Change Coach aims to empower employees to accept and embrace changes in their current working environment. Utilizing a project management approach to transition where changes to a project are formally introduced and approved.
Examples of areas where transition coaching can help in business are:
- Technological changes
- Changing the attitudes and behaviors of personnel
- Policy or procedure changes
Change coaching begins with a systematic diagnosis of the current situation in order to determine both the need for change and the capability to change. The implementation plan is then developed by setting goals, identifying barriers and activity to remove them, setting change activity and keys to success. A change coach can guide this process or enable the leaders of the organization to do so. Ongoing follow up to ensure the implementation program is working, make adjustments and evaluate the change.
On transformation projects, the Change Coach aligns groups’ expectations, communicates, integrates teams and manages people training.
Successful change in business is more likely to occur if the following are included:
- Benefits and a business case for achievement are clearly identified. (Which should be continuously updated), and monitoring of barriers, successes and cultural issues affecting the progress of the associated work
- Stakeholders are involved in the change. They are aware of the reasons for the change (why?), the benefits of successful implementation (what is in it for us, and you) as well as the details of the change (when? where? who is involved? how much will it cost? etc.)
- An effective education, training and/or skills upgrading scheme for the organization
- Personal counseling (if required) to alleviate any change related fears
- Monitoring of the implementation and fine-tuning as required
